What is the reader group?
The reader group is a way for local people to help us develop and share better information about health care in Leeds. This may include letters for patients about their GP practice, or a new patient leaflet about a particular service.
Anyone who is signed up to our public network, called Involving You, can get involved. People who have signed up to the network receive monthly email newsletters which include different ways to find out more about or get involved in health and care in Leeds.
Everyone on the network is invited to volunteer to take part in reader group activities. Some people take part every time an opportunity comes along. Other people may only take part if the activity is something they are interested in, and other people may choose not to take part at all.
Why do we have a reader group?
Evidence suggests that involving patients and the public like this can help us produce better, more useful information. To support this, our reader group involves patients, members of the public and Leeds health and social care staff. This helps us make sure that the information is clear, written in plain English and can be understood by all our different local communities.
How does it work?
We email or post out the information to network members who want to take part. This includes guidance on what to do, which has also developed by the reader group. Network members volunteer their time to read through the document and information provided and give feedback by answering questions in a survey. This feedback is then used to help shape the final version of the document.
We are always on the lookout for more people to join our reader group. If you are interested or want to know more, please email [email protected] or call reception 0113 221 7777.
How to submit a document to be reviewed:
We want to support all our health and care services to provide better information. We welcome documents from local organisations for sharing with our reader group, including surveys, leaflets, web pages, videos or animations.
Before submitting a document for review, make sure to read through the information in the guidance form below, and the content style guide for NHS writing.
For more information, please email [email protected] with a PDF of your document and a completed guidance / submission form.
